Sudan’s national dialogue delegation travels to Addis to meet armed movements
|
Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-A delegation of Sudan’s national dialogue mechanism (7+7) is expected to travel to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa today, Saturday, to meet the armed movements after the mechanism had received a request from the head of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) Thabo Mbeki to help in efforts to persuade the armed factions to engage in the national dialogue. Informed sources told the state-run Sudanese media Center (SMC) on Friday that the mechanism delegation composed of Government and opposition parties will provide a roadmap for the national dialogue which was approved by the General Assembly, chaired by Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir, head of the High Committee for National Dialogue with the armed movements. The sources said the meeting is part of efforts to push forward the process of the national dialogue with the participation of all, without exclusion of anyone. Sudanese president Omar Hassan al-Bashir launched the national dialogue initiative last January but the process suffered major setbacks after the withdrawal of the opposition National Umma Party (NUP) and the non-participation of the rebels as well as leftist forces.
