Sudan’s government engages in negotiations with Darfur rebels in Addis Ababa on Nov. 22

Khartoum-SudaneseOnline- Sudan’s Government has stressed that the AU-brokered negotiations between Khartoum and Darfur armed movements to be held this month in Addis Ababa will start despite absence of some of these movements in accordance with road map based on the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD)
In press statements on Friday, the head of Darfur peace implementation office, Amin Hassan Omer, said that they will engage in negotiations with the armed movements in Addis on Nov. 22 at the invitation extended by the head of the AU High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) Thabo Mbeki, disclosing that the negotiations would be on the ceasefire between the Government and the armed movements.
Omer added that the negotiations will be launched with those who attend from the movements, pointing out that the purpose of this process is to create a suitable atmosphere for the rebel participation in the national dialogue process.
He confirmed that DDPD is the basis for any agreements can be reached on the Darfur issue and that there was no direction to create parallel platforms
Darfur rebel movements, which refuse to negotiate under the basis of the Doha framework document, proposed last April - jointly with rebel SPLM-N - a roadmap calling to unify the two peace tracks end the armed conflicts in southern and western Sudan, and to hold a national constitutional conference after direct talks on their respective regions.
In a meeting held on 9 May, the 15-member body said concerned by the surge of violence in Darfur last April following a series of military confrontations between the government army and rebels and tribal fighting.
