The Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) closed the Mahas Club in Khartoum on Tuesday.
The club’s deputy secretary, Abbas Mohamed Tahir told reporters in the capital todayandnbsp;that a police contingent arrived at the club in El Deim district in southern Khartoum on Tuesday evening.
They expelled the guard by force and locked the gate. Some policemen stayed to guard the place, he said.
HAC did not provide any reason for the closure of the club, which was set up by the Mahas, an ethnic group from northern Sudan.
Tahir accused former club members of “carrying out the government’s agenda, in response to the club’s activities against gold mining in the Mahas region [north of Dongola in northern Sudan] and tackling issues no one speaks about”.
