South Sudan claims killing of over 245 rebels in fresh fighting
|
Khartoum-The South Sudan state has announced killing of more than 245 of the rebels of Reik Machar in battles in the oil-rich unity state in the northern part of the country and Jonglei state in the east. Juba has meanwhile accused the Sudanese government of providing huge military support to the rebels through air dropping in the past period and establishment of camps on the borders.
Juba has claimed possession of evidence, requesting the monitoring team from IGAD countries to conduct investigations on the ground. On its part, the rebels said they engaged in military confrontation with the government forces in unity and Jongeli states despite international Security Council warning to impose sanctions on both sides.
The Sudanese4 military spokesperson Al-Sawarmy Khalid denies any support to the rebels, saying the recent visit of Machar to Khartoum came as part of the Sudanese mediation between the parties to the conflict in the South Sudan.
