Selection of (50) Sudanese national personalities for the national dialogue

Khartoum-SudaneseOnline- The national dialogue committee, known as (7 + 7), scheduled for to day , Sunday, will choose (50) national figure from civil society leaders to membership of the General Assembly for the dialogue, at the time the committee is exerting efforts to meet the armed movements and opposing parties to urge and encourage them to join the dialogue. Member of the dialogue committee and leading figure in Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), Ahmed Sa’ad Omar, revealed on Saturday that the committee has reached consensus to select the General Secretariat which consists of national and experienced personalities, adding that the committee is working on the preparation of proposals to set date for the dialogue conference. Omer added that the head of the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP), Thabo Mbeki, has succeeded in persuading the opposition parties to sit down with the dialogue committee to discuss their demands within the dialogue, emphasizing that going of the committee to Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia at the request of Mbeki will support the response of the armed movements for dialogue. The AUHIP was informed that, on 2 November 2014, the first General Assembly of the National Dialogue was convened, with the participation of various Sudanese political parties. In this regard, the Chairperson of the Commission commends the General Assembly for adopting the Addis Ababa Agreement of 5 September 2014 between the 7+7 Steering Committee and the Paris Declaration Group. She also commends the General Assembly for endorsing the proposal to convene the 7+7 Steering Committee with the armed movements at the AU Commission, in Addis Ababa, during the month of November 2014. The AUHIP was informed that this meeting would brief the armed movements on the National Dialogue process, including presenting them with all documents submitted to and endorsed by the General Assembly hitherto, the procedure of calling the National Dialogue and the various structures of the National Dialogue. This is intended to create an enabling environment and building trust between the parties involved. Most of all, this meeting is designed to achieve the strategic principle of inclusivity that should facilitate ownership of the process by all Sudanese.
