Qatar’s ambassador to Sudan Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi said Thursday that the leaders of the two countries emphasize on the need for bolstering bilateral relations in all spheres to serve the interests of both countries, thanking Sudanese government for its sincere efforts in this regard, reported Sudanes newspaper Al-Rakoba in its official website.

“Our relations with Sudan is first based on a religious bond not a political one,” he said, reiterating both countries’ full support for all Muslims across the world.

On the Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir’s recent visit to Qatar, Al Nuaimi said the ‘auspicious’ visit has been made by Mr. Bashir within the framework of the two countries’ brotherly relations despite attempts by the ‘blockading states’, led by Saudi Arabia, to throw a wrench in the plan.

The Qatari diplomat stated: “Today, all political figures of the Muslim world are of the same mind about the fact that Saudi dollars were the driving force for that fake esteem and veneration for some Gulf leaders, and indeed, the relationships between Arab countries and them are not based on brotherhood and common attitudes, but a mere show-off to preserve the good relationships among Arab Muslim nations.”

Sudan has been under pressure from the ‘blockading states’ for its neutral stance towards the Gulf political crisis. However, the country’s president paid an official visit to Doha on Monday, where he met with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani the Emir of Qatar and the two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as common issues, particularly regional developments.

The visit comes following the recent lifting of economic sanctions on Sudan. Qatar was one of the first countries that supported the U.S. decision to remove these anti-Sudan sanctions. The Qatari Foreign Minister expressed hope that this move would pave the way for further economic development as well as establishing peace and security in the African country.
