The residents of the Zamzam camp for the displaced, located south of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, are facing a severe drinking water crisis, and a lack of medicines.
“The camp population was already large, with more than 150,000 people. Now, we are sharing the water sources and the limited health services with more than 23,000 newly displaced,” a camp elder told Dabanga.
The new displaced sought refuge at the camp during the past few weeks, fleeing widespread attacks by government forces on villages in East Jebel Marra and Tawila localities.
The camp elder added that the sanitary conditions are also rapidly deteriorating, owing to the lack of toilets, and appealed to the North Darfur authorities and humanitarian organisations
