No pressure behind the nomination of Al-Bashir: Sudan’s leading figure
|
Khartoum-SudaneseOnline -The leading figure in the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) Dr. Nafi Ali Nafi denied any external pressure imposed on his party to re-elect the incumbent President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir in the next elections. The former Adviser to the Sudanese President swore by God that no body can enforce them to do what they don’t. He told reporters on Thursday that all members of NCP agreed to choice Al-Bashir as the head of the party and its candidate in the forthcoming elections, refuting reports indicating refusal of some NCP leading figures the re-election of Al-Bashir. “The person who does not accept to vote in the party's Leadership Council secretly, and does not accept the results of Shura Council after its confidential recommendations, and does not accept the results of the NCP General Convention is someone who wants to impose his opinion only” he added. The NCP Leadership Council on Monday besides Bashir selected four other leading members and referred them to the Shura Council to pick one of them as the party’s nominee for 2015 presidential election. The 70-year old president previously said he would not seek a new mandate saying the country needs “fresh bold”. The appointment of a military, Bakri Hassan Saleh, as first vice-president was also perceived as a step towards his departure. During the past weeks, Bashir received different delegations from the NCP dignitaries requesting him to accept their nomination for the presidential race.
