On Sunday, customs authorities in Port Sudan found 685 kg of drugs in a container.
The drugs, worth SDG21 million ($3,420), were hidden in a container carrying refrigerators. The shipment came from Lebanon.
The officer responsible for the container’s clearance, Emad Shedeira, was arrested. Customs clearing agents Idris Abdelhafiz and Sharif Abutaj were released on bail.
In April 2014, 47 sacks of narcotic pills, worth about SDG 354 million (nearly $59 million), were intercepted by customs at the main Sudanese harbour.
