Karti: Sudan asks Egypt not to escalate Halayeb file
Khartoum-The Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Karti has said that Halayeb file is still an issue of dispute between Sudan and Egypt, and revealed a request by Sudan not to escalate the issue, and to maintain the status quo.
He said that the Sudanese delegation was keen to put forward the files which he considers as the reason for the tension in the relationship between the two countries during the past period. He referred to the issue of the border crossing, saying that the delay in opening the crossing is because of the Egyptian side stance that the borders between the two countries are not correct.
He said that they requested to review the location of the first crossing, revealing an agreement between the two countries to hold the meeting for the survey committee in the 17th of March to make sure that the installations are made on their right places.
Karti, who was on a visit to Cairo, said that they discussed the security file, issue of Sudanese miners who were caught near the Sudanese-Egyptian borders and the stance of Sudan toward the African Union decision to suspend the membership of Egypt to the African union. He renewed Khartoum rejection to the decision, and described the discussion on these issues as objective.
