Militiamen assaulted residents of the Kalma camp for the displaced in South Darfur on Monday. They stole their horses and donkeys, beat a man, and abducted another. On Sunday gunman beat and robbed a camp sheikh.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Saleh Eisa Mohamed, secretary general of the Kalma camp, reported that on Monday sevenandnbsp;Janjaweedandnbsp;on camels assaulted a group of displaced who were on their way to collect firewood from the area of Neira. They stole their ten horses and donkeys, and beat up Gadir Abdel Rahman Adam (28), after which they kidnapped Ali Abdallah Saleh (35). They are demanding a ransom of SDG10,000 ($1,750) for his release.”
“The family of Saleh, together with sheikhs of the camp reported the incident to Unamid. They are now searching for a solution,” Mohamed added.
On Sunday evening, three militiamen severely beat one of the Kalma camp sheikhs, and robbed him of three mobile telephones and SDG320 ($56). The same men stole two donkeys from camp resident Abdallah Abdel Nabi.
