Health minister case against Al-jareeda newspaper postponed
|
Khartoum-The hearing session on Al-jareeda newspaper case took place at Khartoum North court Sunday morning The newspaper was sued over an article that was considered by the Health Minister Prof. Mamoun Humaida as defamation after Mr. Idris Al-Doma wrote in his column an article entitled” Prof. Mamoum Humaida: Youd do not respect doctors nor respect our minds”. The health minister filed a case bearing the number 19922 under article 159 of the Sudanese criminal code coupled with articles 24/25 of the Press and Publication act. It is to be recalled that the court had kept the complaint four months ago due to the absence of the plaintiff. The court has accepted the postponement request by representative of the defendant Ustaz Amru Bin al-a’s as it was not possible to notify the defendant body because the defendants were notified on the session late Thursday with Friday and Saturday off. On his part, Mr. Al-Doma said the newspaper policy is to support the issues of the people, and will not deviate from that line. Mr. Hayder said taking actions on this case in this particular time by the minister aims to divert us from paying attention to the practices of the minister in the health sector, especially after the National Congress move to allow him in the ministry for only two months. He referred to what he described as the minister insistence to continue his legal action against journalist Fatima Al-Sadeq, and his campaign to get a million petitions. Pledging to continue revealing the minister’s practices against our people, he said the court and the public opinion are the judges. A number of activists and readers of the newspaper were present at the court in support of the solid stance of the newspaper.
