Former minister of agriculture sued over genetically modified cottons

Khartoum-The former director of the Fodders Research Center at the Agricultural Research Corporation Prof. Ma’arouf Ibrahim has filed a case against the former Minister of Agriculture Dr. Abdel-Halim Al-Mut’afi for introducing genetically modified crops including the cottons.

The Sudanese Society for Consumer Protection has called for prosecuting the former minister and others before the court of law for committing an offense with regard to the bio-safety.

Speaking to a press conference at the premises of the consumer society on statuary, Dr. Ibrahim said Al-Mut’aafi has made strategic mistake when entered the genetically modified crops to Sudan at the cost of the organic agriculture as Sudan enjoys a comparative advantage in this regard.
