Foreign Ministry: Security Council escalates mass rape allegation against Sudan
|
Khartoum-The undersecretary of the ministry of foreign affairs Abdalla Hamd Al-Azrag has revealed escalations at the Security Council with regard to the issue of Thabit village in North Darfur state, saying that “something bigger than that is being made”.
Ambassador Al-Azrag made briefed on Friday the European ambassadors, the international organizations and the US charge d’affaires in Sudan on the allegations of raping 200 women in Thabit village in North Darfur state.
Speaking to journalists, Al-Azrag attributed the rejection to the UNAMID request to conduct another investigation in the village to what he described as escalations at the Security Council against Sudan.
He pointed out that the Security Council issued, on Thursday, statement calling for allowing the UNAMID into Thabit, describing that the statement as an attempt to pave the way for further escalations and taking measures against Sudan.
He said the attempt to conduct another investigations into the mass rape is a humiliation for the state and violation to its sovereignty and that no respected government would accept such violations and humiliations.
