European Union allocates 1.7 million Euros to promote democratic principles and human rights in Sud

07:06 PM June, 13 2017 Sudanese Online SudaneseOnline News-Khartoum Sudan My Library Short URL The Delegation of the European Union to Sudan launched on 13th June 2017, a new Call for Proposals under the programme of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights for Sudan (EIDHR) known as Country-Based Support Scheme (CBSS) Sudan 2016-2017. Under this call for proposals the Delegation of the European Union to Sudan will allocate 1.7 million euros for projects to support initiatives by national and international civil society organizations in the promotion of democratic principles and human rights. This call for proposal will be focused on media, equality between men and women and protecting defenders of human rights. The European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) aims at contributing to the development and consolidation of democracy, the rule of law and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms within the framework of the European Union’s policy on development cooperation with third countries, consistently with the European Union’s foreign policy as a whole. In Sudan the EIDHR programme is primarily used to support initiatives implemented by national civil society organizations for the promotion of democratic principles and human rights. The European Union announces that the rules of the Call for proposals, eligibility criteria for applicants, eligible actions and costs are available at the delegation website. The deadline for submission of the concept notes is July 30, 2017. Background Since 2005, with a total of 10 million euros, the EIDHR programme has supported over 120 projects focusing on promotion of human rights, peace and civic and voter education as well as other issues pertaining to the promotion and protection of human rights in the country . This funding was used for: Rising awareness of local communities on human rights principles and human rights education; Promoting of the democratic process and democratic principles ; Promoting the human rights of specific target groups such as women, children, youth, IDPs, marginalized communities and minorities; Enhancing the culture of equality, tolerance and peace through projects targeting issues of peace, stability, conflict resolution, coexistence and transitional justice.
