|
Khartoum-The press monitoring section at the Sudan Contemporary Center said that he obtained information that the Egyptian authorities prepare to hand over the opposition activist Abu-al-gasim Ibrahim Al-Haj to Khartoum soon. In the meantime, a spokesperson of the UNHCR in Cairo said that the commission is about to close the file of Al-Haj who is registered as a refugee since 1998, saying that the UHCR is unable to do something for Al-haj under the rejection of the Egyptian authorities to set him free or allow it to meet him in the prison. According to news, Al-Haj, who has been in jail for over four years desipte the deterioration of his health condition, has sent a requet the UNHCR to close his file. Al-Haj and four other Sudanese persons were arrested and brutally tortured. They were interrogated, in the presence of Sudanese security officers, on fabricated data that offered later to the judicial authorities that rejected it. The life of Al-Haj will be in a real danger if handed over to the Sudanese authorities due to his stance as activist and opposition member from Darfur region. The security service might have transferred him from Al-Ganatir prison to another prison prior to extrude him forcefully at any time. The Contemporary Center of Sudan urged the higher commission of refugees and the international human rights organizations to act as soon as possible to help Al-Haj and stop his extradition to Sudan.
