Dinka Ngok have filed a complaint to the African Union and the international community against the suspension of Abyei Supervision by South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir, taking to the streets in the two regions of Anit and Agwak protesting the suspension from the part of South Sudan. The Secretary General of the native leadership Mali Chol told the state-run Sudan Media center (SMC) on Saturday that Kiir suspended the implementation of the agreement signed by the joint committee (agreement on 22- June -2011 regarding administrative and security arrangements), pointing out that they demanded the African Union to hand over Abyei file to the Dinka tribe along with those who were excluded from the committee noting that they are awaiting response from the African Union. In line with the CPA, the residents of the disputed area have to hold a referendum to determine whether Abyei will remain part of the Sudan or join the South Sudan. But the two countries failed to agree on the participation of the Misseriya pastoralists who reside there several months every year. Abyei’s referendum was initially agreed to be simultaneously held with the vote on the independence of South Sudan. The establishment of a new state in the South after six year interim period marred by mistrust and difficulties complicates the ongoing efforts to settle Abyei issue. South Sudan rejected Khartoum’s demands to include the Misseriya nomads in the vote and its proposal seeking division of the area as well as allocation of equal share of resources generated from the region, describing Sudan’s demands as irrational.
