Darfur Bar Association (DBA) welcomes the statements made by the Deputy American Secretary of State H.E. John J. Sullivan , Currently visiting Sudan, on the purposes of his visit. His Excellency’s statement that the development of the bilateral relations between his country and Sudan depends on the likely improvement in the situation of human rights and religious freedoms in Sudan , is highly welcomed .The American plan , as reported from the Deputy Secretary of State , calls on the ruling Regime to review its land policy as relates to demolition of religious institutions and enquiry into the religious violations committed by the Regime instruments , protection of religious freedoms and work to amend the articles that violate the rights stated in some acts such as the Act of Personal Affairs and the 1991 Criminal Law .The Deputy Secretary of State also called on the Regime and the armed factions in Darfur and the two regions( Blue Nile and South Kordofan ) to permanently cease fire and embark on arrangements that lead to permanent peace in Sudan . He also called on the People’s Movement (North Sector) to accept the American proposal concerning enabling access of humanitarian aid to those affected by war in the Blue Nile and south kordofan without any obstacles whatsoever. Darfur Bar association welcomes the statements made by the USA Deputy Secretary of State and hopes that the Regime abides by the conditions so propounded. The DBA also avails the opportunity to call on the Regime to set free all the political detainees such as the students who face prejudicial detentions, on top of whom comes the former president of Darfur Students Union at Al Quran Al Karim University ( The University of Holy Quran ) Mr. Nasr El Din Mukhtar and his colleagues. Darfur students at Bakht Al Rida University also face malicious criminal charges and harassments together with other students of Darfur origin at Khartoum State universities who face similar harassments. As DBA calls on the armed factions to return and abide by the peace process , it calls on the People’s Movement ( North Sector ) to allow access of humanitarian aid to those affected by war operations in the two regions ( Blue Nile and South Kordofan ) without any sort of hindrance .
