December 22, 2014-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) has donated £ 11.2 million ($ 17.7 million) for U.N World Food Programme (WFP) in Sudan to enable it to assist the millions of people in need of humanitarian aid. The contribution will contribute towards the development of new effective concepts. According to a statement issued by the WFP on Sunday that sum will be allocated to support (cash vouchers) program which gives people the option and supports the local markets and helps change the way assistance provided. WFP country director for Sudan, Adnan Khan, appreciated the British contribution, noting it came at a time when the programme is planning for the operation of 2015 “This will ensure the continued receipt of vulnerable persons in the Sudan for the life-saving support they need over a long period of time. And this is very important in conflict-affected areas such as Darfur, where millions of people are displaced” Khan added In 2015, WFP plans to reach towards (646,000) persons in need in all parts of Sudan through the cash vouchers programme which costs 60 million dollar up 30% on the cost in the year 2014.
