Boosting Human Development in South Kordofan
|
On 9 December, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of South Kordofan inaugurated the Kadugli Civil Service Development Center (KDTC) with the participation of local authorities, UN agencies, civil society, and the media. The Center is a capacity development institution established as a development partnership between UNDP and the Government of South Kordofan, with generous donor contributions from the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Canada, and Norway, for the overall aim of rebuilding the institutional and human resources capacity in the state after a prolonged two decades of war. “We are very glad today to inaugurate this Center which is the first of its kind in the entire state as it consists of fully equipped training halls and housing units. We count a lot on this center because peace can only be built through capacity building and enhanced human development.” said Adam AL-Faki, Governor, South Kordofan State. The establishment of the Center came as a key product of UNDP Local Governance Capacity Development Project, which is contributing to the creation of effective state and local governance structures in South Kordofan. The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Ali Al-Za’tari said “UNDP is very proud of this achievement and excited about the opportunities and prospects created with the completion of the Center’s establishment which is demonstrating the excellent cooperation between UNDP and the Government of South Kordofan. The Center will have the capacity to provide training to 20,000 civil servants by 2016 from South Kordofan and states of the region.”
