Baderin: Dialogue will not be successful without participation of all
|
The UN independent expert for human rights situations in Sudan, Mashood Baderin, has affirmed that it is impossible for the dialogue called for by President Al-Bashir to reach its goals and realize the aspired goals without bridging the big confidence gap between the government and the parties and the participation of the whole political powers and organizations.
Baderin said that the UN and the African Union shall be sponsor of the dialogue for evaluation and observation. Speaking to the Citizen, Baderin said that he met Al-Mahdi upon his release and asked him on his view on the dialogue, adding” these parties does not have trust on the government so we need confidence building between the government and the parties, but I think dialogue will be successful if there is observation and assessment under the patronage of the UN and the African Union with the participation of all”
Baderin has urged the government to release Ibrahim Al-Sheikh and all other political detainees to show good faith and genuine commitment to the national dialogue.
With regard to the arrest of Mariam Yahiya and her husband at Khartoum Airport on Tuesday, Baderin said “I have received information on Mariam and her husband. I will try to contact the security to know the reason for arresting Mariam and banning her from travel”.
