Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour, has described what has been published by media about attempt to arrest the president Omer Al-Bashir in Johannesburg, South Africa, as “a sheer rumor and baseless” South African court issued an interim order on Sunday preventing Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir leaving the country after the International Criminal Court (ICC) called for his arrest at a summit of African leaders in Johannesburg. Al-Bashir is accused in an International Criminal Court arrest warrant of war crimes and crimes against humanity over atrocities in the Darfur conflict. Sudanese top diplomat said in statements on Sunday that Al-Bashir now participating in all the activities and meetings of the Summit and that he will return home according to the scheduled program, stressing that attempt of ICC to lure the South African government against Al-Bashir has failed. Judge Hans Fabricuis said if Al-Bashir was allowed to leave the country it would damage South Africa’s reputation. A court statement said it was “compelling respondents to prevent President Omar Al-Bashir from the leaving the country until an order is made in this court.”
