|
Arab League affirms support to South Sudan The Arab League has described as strong the relations with South Sudan. The secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Arabi has stressed the necessity of institutionalized relationship between the Arab League and the South Sudan state. This came during his meeting with the South Sudan Ambassador to Egypt Anthony Kon. Ambassador Kon has thanked the Arab League for its stance and honorable role during the recent events in South Sudan. He further briefed the Secretary General of the Arab League on the incidents that took place in some areas in South Sudan including Juba and the states of Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile.
As a result to the fighting in December 15-16 that followed the failed military coup led by the former vice President Reik Machar, many citizens have lost their lives and properties while others were wounded. He affirmed that these incidents in South Sudan are not between the Neur and Dinka. in December 15-16 He said that the events have fully destroyed the basic infrastructure in Bentui, and 70% of the infrastructure in Bor and over 50% in Malakal with #####ng of shops, banks, UN premises, and citizens’ cattle and personal possessions. He urged the Arab league to support South Sudan in sheltering and assisting the displaced persons, He reiterated commitment of South Sudan government to the cessation of hostilities, realization of durable peace and realization of national reconciliation. The Secretary General of the Arab League has meanwhile expressed readiness to support South Sudan.
