Al-Bashir and Kiir agree on mechanisms to push ahead implementations of signed agreements
|
Khartoum-The President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit concluded on Saturday a short visit to Khartoum during which he held a mini summit meeting with the President of the Republic Omer Al-Bashir. The two presidents agreed on mechanisms to push the signed bilateral agreements ahead. Sudan has said it does not hold the South the responsible for obstructing the signed joint agreements. The two countries have agreed to open the borders and resume oil production in a week. The Defense minister of South Sudan is expected to return o Khartoum in a week to discuss the security arrangements between the two countries. The visit of Kiir is the first of its kind since the outbreak of fighting in South Sudan between government forces and rebels led by the former vice President Reik Machar last December. The two Presidents held joint talks at the Quest House here they discussed bilateral relations and means for consolidating them, mechanisms of implementation of joint cooperation agreements, the situations in South Sudan and the role of Sudan in realization of peace through IGAD organization. The Sudanese President Omer Al-Bashir, said in a statement at Khartoum Airport, that the visit of President Kiir to Sudan will push the relations between the two countries ahead. He said the visit comes as part of the exchange of visits between the leadership in the two countries. On his part, President Kiir said before his departure at Khartoum Airport that the meeting has discussed a number of local and regional issues and the signed joint agreements. He said that these agreements will be implemented soon
