African Union adjourns talks between Sudan’s government and the rebel (SPLM-N)

Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) adjourned in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on Monday talks between Sudan’s government and the rebel Sudan People Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), pointing out that the negotiations to be reconvened at a date yet to be determined.
At a press conference on Monday, AUHIP head, Thabo Mbeki, said that the two parties made a major breakthrough and agreed on most of items of the framework agreement, but still they need to more work.
"We are really not too far from concluding the kind of peace agreements that the country needs, we are very positive for the future of the negotiations." Mbeki confirmed
He stressed that the two parties felt the need to conduct consultations and reflection on the elements of the draft agreement and agreed to adjourn before to resume as quick as possible.
For his part, the head of government’s delegation, Ibrahim Ghandour, confirmed that Sudanese Government's commitment to the dialogue approach and continue its tireless efforts to achieve peace based on moral responsibility towards the nation and its citizens.
He added that the national dialogue’s initiative launched by President Omer Al-Bashir last January provided a base and a climate to address the country.
Meanwhile, the head of SPLM-N, Yasser Arman, explained that despite that his movement has discussed the issues of Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile states, but he believes that stability of Sudan comes through comprehensive solutions, expressing his hopes and optimistic that they will reach a framework agreement in the next round.
This was the seventh round of negotiations between the government and SPLM-N, a rebel group in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, southern states along the border with South Sudan. Fighting broke out in the two areas in June 2011, when fighters once allied with rebels in South Sudan refused to disarm.
