AU mediator made no progress in the dialogue: Sudan’s opposition
|
Jan 27, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudan’s opposition National Consensus Forces (NCF) has showed no confidence in the ability of the head of African Union High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan (AUHIP) Thabo Mbeki, to achieve any success or breakthrough on Sudanese pending issues between the opposition and the ruling National Congress Party (NCP). After the meeting with Mbeki on Monday, NCF member, Babiker Ahmed al-Hassan, said in press statements that Mbeki throughout his previous three meetings failed to achieve any thing on the ground, stressing that the country is moving to greater complexity. Al-Hassan pointed out that they told Mbeki that the situation has not improved but rather worsened due to Khartoum’s Government's adherence to constitutional amendments and it’s insisting on the elections despite the country suffering from war and instability in some states and laws restricting freedoms. He stated that the coalition is not against the national dialogue but there are requirements must be met to participate in the dialogue. Regarding the release of the political detainees, al-Hassan said that Mbeki had promised to discuss the issue in a meeting with President Omar al-Bashir, noting that the coalition has not demand to meet Mbeki but the latter requested to meet them “We met him to prove that we are not against dialogue” he said
