AU announce its support to the border demarcation between the two Sudans
|
Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The African Union has announced its support to the two governments of Sudan and South Sudan in order to agree on demarcation of the borders as soon as possible, hoping that the two sides to agree to demarcate their common borders by 80%. The head of AU liaison office in Sudan, Ambassador Mahmud Khan, told the state-run Sudanese Media Center (SMC) on Tuesday that AU has borders program and specialized team in the demarcation would support the two parties during their meeting in the capital Khartoum, pointing out that the joint border demarcation committee between Sudan and South Sudan will discuss establishing of the joint fund for donors to finance the activities of the committee. He added that the demarcation of the borders doesn’t mean dividing them between the two countries but to be demarcated for the purpose of resolving disputes and resolve the common problems of the border, explaining the AU has provided the joint border demarcation committee with a team consisting of 2 experts in the border field Meetings of the committee between are continuing in Khartoum under the auspices of the African Union. In a statement issued by the committee on Tuesday, the meeting was addressed by the Minister at the Sudanese Presidency El Rashid Haroun and South Sudan Ambassador in Khartoum Mayan Dut Wol, besides the representative of the African Union Mahmud Khan. The joint committee also listened to speeches of the co-chairs from Khartoum and Juba. The next meeting is expected to discuss many functions provided for in the Joint Cooperation Agreement signed by the two Sudans in September 2012.
