Representatives of the AU, UN, the Sudanese government, and Unamid have concluded the 18^thandnbsp;Tripartite Coordination Mechanism meeting on Unamid, in New York.

In their opening statements, the AU, UN, and the Sudanese government delegates welcomed the progress made in the implementation of Unamid’s mandate, and cooperation received from the government, Unamid said in the Agreed Outcomes document, released today.

The participants welcomed UN Security Council resolution 2173 (2014) and the re-prioritisation of Unamid’s strategic priorities following resolution 2148 (2014). andnbsp;The forthcoming discussions on the peacekeeping mission's exit strategy, based on the progress on the ground and coordinated with the UN Country Team, was also welcomed.

The meeting urged the Sudanese government and Unamid to increase coordination and work on technical challenges concerning the import and export of Unamid’s operational needs, issuance of visas, and Unamid’s deployment.

Unamid briefed the meeting on measures taken with regard to the Ebola outbreak.

The participants thanked the departing Unamid head, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, for his “dedication, commitment, and outstanding contribution to the peace in Darfur”.
