The USA has agreed to restore a number of exchange programmes with Sudanese higher education institutions.
After 20 years of programme suspension, the US Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Donald Booth has announced the return of the American Fulbright Scholars and American Fulbright Specialists programmes to Sudan.
These programmes will bring American experts to work with Sudanese universities in building capacity and strengthening US-Sudan university partnerships, according to a media note of the American Embassy in Khartoum today.
“The return of American Fulbright programmes to Sudan this year is particularly momentous because of the 70th anniversary of the Fulbright Program fostering mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries,” the statement reads.
“This year two American professors [..] travelled to Sudan to assist El Zaeem El Azhari University in medical curriculum and medical technology.
“In continuation of US efforts to strengthen US-Sudanese university partnerships, Special Envoy Booth announced that the Department of State will also send eleven Sudanese university vice chancellors and the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to the USA next January to meet with US universities. The trip’s objective will be to increase educational exchanges between US and Sudanese institutions of higher education.
“By expanding educational exchanges, the United States and Sudan can work together to improve educational standards, exchange ideas and knowledge, and share common values,” the media note concludes.
