Khartoum, 3 Aug (SUNA)- The Sudanese Youth Union on Wednesday launched its first convoy for humanitarian relief to flood victims in Kasala state of Eastern Sudan, within the framework of a campaign launched by the union to help flood and torrential rains victims in the country
Kasala state, eastern Sudan had earlier announced that some 1617 families have been hit by the floods brought by the Gash River, an untamed seasonal river coming from the Ethiopian plateau, and which each year hits at different area in eastern Sudan.
Dr Shugar Bashar, the chairman of the union, told journalists on Wednesday that the convoy would leave for the areas of Kasala within the coming few days carrying beside humanitarian relief, equipment and tools to help people deal with the floods and their aftermath.
He said his union has set up an emergency room to follow up the developments and that the convoy to Kasala is the first of many convoys to different parts of the country destined for areas affected by the rains and floods.
He said the union got assistance from many bodies and organization including the zakat chamber and other government and ministerial bodies. ma/ma
