Sudan’s opposition party says no direction to freeze its political activity
|
Jan 20, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudan’s opposition National Umma Party (NUP) has stressed that there is no direction to freeze its political activity and work secretly during the next phase, expressing its surprise at reports indicated that it had decided to freeze its activities following the government’s move to dissolve the party. NUP deputy chairman, Fadlela Nasir Burma, told the government-run Sudan Media Center (SMC) on Monday that the party had had discussed several options to run the party, but it has not decided to freeze its activity or operate secretly Burma urged the government to undo any directions to resolve the party, especially since the country was in the process of the national dialogue and elections. Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) filed a request since last December with the Council of Political parties to dissolve the NUP on the grounds that al-Mahdi is a signatory to the ‘Paris Declaration’ and ‘Sudan Call’ accords with rebel groups stressing that it calls for dismantling the one-party state and mobilizing all forces “to change the existing constitutional order in the country that carries a military aspect”. The NISS said in its complaint that alliance with rebels violates Sudan interim constitution of 2005 and Political Parties Act of 2007.
