Jan 10, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will convene an extraordinary summit in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa in 18 January at the level of presidents of the States The Summit will be devoted to the deepening crisis in South Sudan, where the IGAD mediating between the warring parties. The statement issued by IGAD said that the summit considered the 7th Summit since the outbreak of armed conflict between forces loyal to the current President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar on 15 December last year. All efforts of the IGAD failed to commit the warring parties to the conflict in South Sudan in compliance with the understandings of the cessation of hostilities, which collapsed to seven consecutive times. IGAD leaders are expected to put more pressure and encourage the two leaders (Kiir and Machar) to strike a sustainable peace deal. Mediators say they are optimistic that the meeting will witness a break through to end the over one-year-old conflict that has killed tens of thousands. It is to be recalled that the two warring parties recently held consultations, the government held in Juba and rebels in Pagak, a town near Ethiopian border. The two warring parties stick to their positions and refuse to make concessions.
