Sudan’s government will sign peace agreement with Darfur movement’s commanders

Jan 07, 2015-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-The head of the Darfur Peace Follow-up Office, Dr. Amin Hassan Omar, announced that his government will sign soon peace agreement with a number of the field commanders of Darfur armed movements, but he refused name these commanders, stressing that the State would not compromise on its responsibilities in maintenance of security and stability in Darfur. At a press conference on Tuesday, Omer reiterated the Government's rejection of any platform for negotiations on Darfur issue other than Doha Forum and provided resuming of Addis Ababa negotiations with the armed movements for approval of these movements to ceasefire and involvement in the national dialogue He said that inclusion of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) in the Constitution gives the agreement the constitutional status Sudanese government which is facing important financial difficulties, failed to fulfill its financial commitments for the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) signed on 14 July. The AU Peace and Security Council further threatened to "take appropriate sanctions against individuals and entities whose actions aims at undermining the DDPD process, and requests the UN Security Council to consider taking similar measure."
