Museveni says that his troops will not withdraw from South Sudan unless Juba is secure
|
December 27, 2014-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni stressed on Friday that he would not withdraw his troops from South Sudan, only after regional troops to secure the capital Juba from rebel attack. Museveni supports the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), which currently governs South Sudan, during its struggle with Sudan before South Sudan people decided to separate from Sudan in 2011. IN last June, South Sudanese Defense Minister Kuol Manyang Juuk said that Ugandan troops will remain in South Sudan until a regional security force is deployed in the country to beef up security Manyang said the Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF), which was sent into South Sudan days after fighting broke out in mid-December, will not leave the country until the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which is mediating peace talks for South Sudan, deploys a regional force to keep the peace and secure vital installations. Kampala and Juba said when Uganda first sent troops into South Sudan that they were being deployed to protect government installations and help foreign nationals to safely evacuate the country.
