The Darfuri traditional folkloric music festival commenced in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, today, with the theme “Let’s sing for peace”.
Folkloric troupes from the capitals of the five Darfur states, El Fasher, Nyala, El Geneina, Zalingei, and Ed Daein, will participate in the festival.
The Darfur Regional Authority’s (DRA) secretary-general of the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Dr Jihad Abdelahman Jalgam, stated in a press conference in El Fasher on Friday that the festival aims at supporting the peace process in Darfur, by promoting cultural diversity and providing an opportunity for cultural dialogue between the various communities in the region.
During the festival, several fora will be organised to discuss the establishment of literary and artistic institutions in Darfur, to protect the region’s cultural heritage.
