Appointment of Governors will be accomplished after constitutional amendments by Sudan’s parliament
|
Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Informed source has revealed that the decision of appointment of Governors instead of their elections will be accomplished after constitutional amendments by the parliament in the coming days. The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) announced last week that its Leadership Council will discard the party’s nominees for governors in the next year election and recommend that the president of the republic appoint state governors rather than elect them. the source told Khartoum-based Al-Rai Al-A’am newspaper that the Parliament will pass the amendments to give the President the power to appoint Governors, expecting that the President will meet governors after amendments to inform them of the decision to exempt them from their posts emphasizing that negative tribal and ethnic practices appeared during the nomination of the party’s candidates for the gubernatorial election. NCP General Convention issued a recommendation, requiring to review the federal system, including the selection of governors, after divisions over the appointment or election
