AU mediation calls Darfur rebel SLM-MM to negotiate Khartoum’s government in Addis Ababa

SudaneseOnline-Sudan’s rebel Liberation Movement-Minni Minnawi (SLM-MM) disclosed that it has received an invitation from the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP) to start negotiating with Sudanese Government in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on 22 November, pointing out that it is now consulting with its allies in Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF). According to Al-Rai Al-A’am newspaper, The SLM-MM presidential assistant for media and public relations, Mutwakil Mohamed Musa,, said that his movement believes in the principle of peaceful solution to the Sudanese crisis, but at the same time it wants the comprehensive and radical solution to the crisis through the principle of unification of platforms, stressing that The SLM-MM works within the framework of (SRF) which requires consultation on the call to unite the visions and attitudes. He added that the movement supports the negotiation and peaceful solutions and dialogue as long as they will lead necessarily to radical change in policies, governance structure and the system change. Last September, the African Union Peace and Security Council called on the warring parties in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states and Darfur region to discuss a cessation of hostilities, before to participate in a national dialogue process aiming to achieve peace and reach an agreement on constitutional reforms. From his part, the AUHIP chief, Thabo Mbeki, announced that Sudanese government delegation will hold parallel meetings with the SPLM-N on 12 October and another one with Darfur rebel groups on 16 October to discuss a cessation of hostilities agreement.
