ULANG AND NASIR COMMISSIONERS STARTED RESTORING GOVERNMENT SERVICES
|
For Immediate Release 5/27/2014 It is my pleasure to inform the media and the people of South Sudan that the Commissioners of Nasir and Ulang Counties arrived in Nasir town on May, 25, 2014 to commence restoring government services after the liberation of Ulang and Nasir towns by the constitutional army of South Sudan. Commissioner Dak Tap of Nasir County and Commissioner Gatkuoth Biem of Ulang County arrived in Nasir town on Sunday. They were received by hundreds of civilians including the chiefs of Jikany clan. Religious leaders of Presbyterian Church were among those who received the two commissioners. The two Commissioners met with elders, church leaders and chiefs in the evening on Sunday at the resident of Commissioner Dak Tap. The civil population was informed that government services in Ulang and Nasir towns would resume within a week after the telephone networks are restored. Commissioner Dak Tap assured the chiefs that the government of South Sudan and the World Food Program are working hard to bring relief food to Jikany areas within a week. Three barges of UNWFP from Sudan are on the way to take relief food to Nasir and Ulang towns. On Monday morning, Commissioner Dak Tap met with the leaders of Jikany White Army and thanked them for cooperating with the constitutional army of South Sudan to restore peace in Upper Nile State. Hon. Dak Tap told the White Army that Riek Machar staged a coup on December, 15, 2013 because he was removed from the position of vice-presidency in July, 2013. Hon. Dak Tap warned Jikany youth to reject negative propaganda because the current crisis is not a war between Nuer and Dinka but a war between Riek Machar and the government of South Sudan. The leaders of the White Army strongly condemned Riek Machar and said that he is an evil incarnate who wants to destroy the country to prevent socio-economic development in the country. The White Army assured the Commissioner that they would work side by side with the constitutional army to hunt down renegade Gathoth Gatkuoth and the rebel-terrorists still loyal to Riek Machar. On the other hand, Commissioner of Ulang County, Hon. Gatkuoth Biem arrived in Ulang town on Monday and met with chiefs and leaders of the White Army who also pledged their allegiance to the constitution of South Sudan. Hon. Gatkuoth Biem promised the chiefs that the UNWFP will bring relief food by barges from the Sudan to alleviate the impending famine induced by the rebellion of Riek Machar. Hon. Gatkuoth Biem strongly told the gathering that Riek Machar should go to his Leer County and mobilize Dok Nuer youth to fight the government instead to use Jikany and Lou Nuer as cannon fodders to get a position in Juba. The chiefs of both Ulang and Nasir Counties expressed their gratitude to the constitutional army of South Sudan and the leadership of Gov. Simon Kun Puoc. The two Commissioners used their Thuraya phones to let Gov. Simon Kun Puoc speak with the chiefs and leaders of the White Army. Gov. Kun Puoc informed the chiefs and the White Army that relief food would be delivered by the UNWFP to all Jikany counties within a week to avert the famine. For contact: Gen.
