At least one man was killed, and others wounded in attacks by militiamen on five villages in Tawila locality in North Darfur on Monday.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, villagers said that on Monday evening “government-backed militiamen in vehicles and others on camels and horses” raided the villages of Su’alba, Kunjara, Um Burma, Tandal, and Haskanita, located northwest of Tawila town.
“However, we stood up to them, and managed to drive them back to their base in Um Jilbakh, north of Kutum.”
Mohamed Ahmed Yagoub, the spokesman for the Sudan Liberation Movement for Justice, led by Taher Hahar and field commander Ali Karbino (LJM-Hajar), reported to Radio Dabanga that one of the villagers named Abdul Aziz Juma was killed, and three others sustained serious injuries in the fighting.
He warned the government-backed militiamen for the consequences of attacking unarmed civilians. “If they attack again, we will confront them.”
