Two citizens were killed and more than a dozen others wounded at the Ideina market, in Bahr El Arab locality, East Darfur, in a clash between government forces and armed men.
One of the wounded told Radio Dabanga that on Thursday, the weekly market day, policemen, army and security troops in 12 vehicles cordoned off the Ideina market in order to arrest a group of gunmen accused of theft.
“The ensuing exchange of fire resulted in the death of two citizens, Ahmed Widaatallah Ahmed (17), and Suleiman Buram. More than a dozen people were injured, including children.”
“Angry citizens at the market seized a lieutenant, asking him about the reason of the shooting. He told them that the Commissioner of Bahr El Arab locality had ordered his troops to persecute a group of armed robbers hiding at the market. The Commissioner acknowledged the order, the source said.”
