Salva Kiir Mayardit: Ready to step down for interests of South Sudan
|
Juba-The President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit has notified his Kenyan counterpart that he did not mind to step down if it is proven to in the interests if South Sudan people.
In the meantime, the African mediation and some African leaders engaged in arrangements to hold the open meeting between Kiir and the rebel leader Reik Machar, expected to talk place in Addis Ababa within days
Sources from Kenya told Sudan tribune that Kiir has told clearly told the Kenyan president that he will not hesitate to step down if it is proven that this will serve the interests peace in South Sudan. According to the source, Kiir told the Kenyan President that his stay in power does not mean something for him if the South loses security and stability.
The Kenyan President said that the leaders in the area will hold a summit in South Sudan soon after direct talks between Salva Kiir and Machar to end the crisis in South Sudan.
