|
Khartoum-The Sudanese army announced on Wednesday that the Sudanese-Libyan joint forces rescued 319 persons, who were stranded in the desert on the Sudanese-Libyan border area, revealing death of 9 persons.
The spokesperson of the armed forces Khalid Sa’ad said in statement published on the website of the defense ministry that “the survivors were assembled in ( Karab Al-Tom) station and provided with assistances”.
He said that” their health condition is bad, 9 persons have died. The aid operation is now underway. They will be extradited to Dongola city to hand them over to the concerned authorities”.
Libya is considered as one of the main destinations for illegal immigrants to Europe. There were frequent drowning incident of infiltrators in the Mediterranean Sea. The travelers, who want to cross the Sudanese-Libyan borders in pursuit of work illegally, normally fall prey to smugglers who leave them in the desert.
Sudan and Libya formed last November a joint force to protect and safeguard the joint borders.
