Nafie supports exempting ministers from appearance before parliament

Khartoum-The deputy to the Sudanese Parliament and former assistant to the Sudanese President Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie has called for exempting the ministers from presenting their statements to the Parliament under the new system that allows presentation of the minister’s statements through the council of ministers sectors instead of the individual statements of each ministry.

In the meantime, the deputies of the parliament slammed the joint ministerial committee and described their performance as weak despite that they are 47 committees. They also criticized the foreign ministry for not fulfilling commitments to the agreements with the ministerial committees and to the financial commitments of the treaties a matter that harmed the interests of the country. They pointed out that only 10 cooperation agreements have been activated although the signed agreements exceeded 30.

They have further criticized what they described as the non-transparent way in selecting the cadres working in these committees, urging for reducing the numbers and changing some officials in these committees.

The state minister for foreign affairs Kamal-Eddin Ismail admitted, during the deliberation on the foreign relations committee report on the joint ministerial committees that was approved on Wednesday, that his ministry is facing difficulties in implementing the agreements, and revealed slowness by some ministries in implementing the agreements.

In the meantime, the deputy speaker of the Parliament, Samia Ahmed Mohamed, gave directives to the foreign ministry to prepare a detailed report on the performance of the ministerial committees in all African countries while head of the foreign relations committee Mohamed Yousif suggested establishment of a joint committee from the executive and legislative organs to follow up implementation of the signed agreements.
