Sudan: Khartoum university forms committee over student killing
|
Excerpt from report by liberal Sudanese newspaper Al-Ayyam on 13 April
The University of Khartoum administration has announced the formation of a committee consisting of the university professors to manage dialogue with the students who staged a sit-in protest since last Sunday [6 April], over the delay of arresting the killer of the student, Ali Abakar Musa, who was assassinated by live bullet at the gate of the Faculty of Arts on 11 March 2014.
The university's information manager, Abd al-Malik al-Na'im, disclosed that the university administration has formed a committee in order to communicate with the Justice Ministry.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Justice has not formed a committee of inquiry headed by a judge, despite the fact that the university administration had contacted it since 14 March.
Meanwhile some professors at the university called for knowing the body that appoints the committee of the university mosque and for regulations that would apply for it, as the mosque has been monopolized by the [ruling] National Congress Party's [NCP] students. [Passage omitted]
