Khailfa Fawzi, a 42-year-old Egyptian national residing in Malta, came face-to-face with a burglar who broke into his house while he was out running errands.

At 10:25am, Fawzi returned to his house in St Paul Street in Marsa, which he used to store tools, to find a man identified by police as being of Sudanese nationality and aged 46, in his basement.

Fawzi said that as soon as he entered the front door he noticed that something was wrong, noticing that the door leading to the basement was opened. There he intercepted the burglar, which he recognised as the same man who had previously broken into his house.

“Last month this man managed to force open the front door and he stole over €7,000 worth of tools," Fawzi claimed with MaltaToday. He also showed this newspaper a broken glass pane of a door which Fawzi claims was broken by the same guy when he broke into his house last month.

Fawzi claimed the burglar tried to assault him and threatened to set his house on fire.

Police from the Rapid Intervention Unit and District Police were on site in few minutes and found the intruder still inside the house. The burglar, residing at the Marsa Open Centre, told the police that it was his house. He was taken away by District Police and was kept for interrogation.
