Sudan cancels ban on entry of Danish people and commodities
|
Khartoum-The Sudanese government has cancelled its boycott to the entry of people and commodities from Denmark that was made in 2008 following the republishing of the anti-Islam cartoons on Danish newspapers.
The Policies Department ahs the Central Bank of Sudan has sent a letter to all accredited banks to lift the embargo on the people and goods from Denmark.
The bank decision was based on letters from ministries of the Presidency of the Republic and the Finance in late March and early April.
The statement, which was issued on the website of the bank, stated that” we convey to you the directives by the President of the Republic to lift the embargo imposed on entry of the Danish commodities and people to the country”.
In 2006, publishing of anti-Islam cartoons has created wide acts of riots and protests in the Islamic countries. 50 persons were killed and 3 Danish embassies were under attack. Danish goods especially the dairy products were boycotted.
In 2008, a Danish newspaper has republished the anti-Islam cartoons in solidarity with the newspaper that has published the cartoons two years ago after three men were arrested over suspicions of plotting to kill a painter of one of these drawings.
President Al-bashir has announced full rejection to participation of Denmark and Norway in the UN-African Union mission in Darfur, saying that he will not allow troops from a country where the Prophet of Islam is insulted, into Sudan. This stance has made Norway to reverse its decision to send troops .into Darfur
