Sudan and South Sudan affirm importance of implementation of joint security agreement
|
Khartoum-Sudan and South Sudan agreed, on Wednesday, to speed up the implementation of the security agreement that was signed in 2012 to secure joint border and establish an arm—free zone to avoid any tensions on the borderline. The Sudanese President Omer Al-Bashir received in Khartoum the Defense Minister of South Sudan Kuwal Menniang who handed him over a written message from President Salva Kiir. The South Sudan Defense Minister said in press statements upon the meeting that they have affirmed the necessity of implementing what has been agreed upon, saying that we have common conviction that security is the real measure for establishment of normal relations between the two countries ". He added that if we are able to ensure security on the joint border, we will then be able to build economic, social, cultural and political relations in a normal way.
On his part, the Sudanese Defense Minister Abdelrahim Mohamed Hussein has told journalists that" we have discussed the issues of mutual concern, especially with regards to the security matters, and the implementation of the agreement that was signed in Addis Ababa. 2012, Sudan and South Sudan signed a security agreement in Addis Ababa to implement package of security arrangements that include building arm-free zone on the common border between Sudan and South Sudan.
