US calls on parties to conflict in south Sudan to make quick progress


    Juba Washington DC-The US state department has welcomed the efforts exerted by the IGAD in order to hold direct talks between the parties to the conflict in South Sudan. The State Department called on the parties to the conflict to utilize these talks to reach fast and visible progress in order to stop the current hostilities, allow access for humanitarian aid and discuss the situation of the political detainees.
    The deputy spokeswoman of the US state department, Marie Harf, urged South Sudan government to fulfill its commitments and release the detainees immediately.

    The US official said that discussing the political issues requires presence of the senior members of the SPLM, who are currently under custody so that the talks are fruitful.
    She said that the talks is very important for the people of South Sudan as the conflict can not be settled via military action. She pointed out that the participation of the US envoy Donal in Addis Ababa talks affirms the US commitment for the realization of peace and national accord toward the establishment of a united and democratic South Sudan.
    In the same context, the Minister at the British Foreign Office for African Affairs, Mark Simmonds, has welcomed the official commencement of the peace talks between South Sudan government and the leader of the rebels. He said that the situation in South Sudan remains worrying, pointing to the continuity of fighting and the increasing in the number of victims. the fighting is going on
    He expressed pleasure over the start of the official talks between representative of President Salva Kiir and the Dr. Reik Mashar, describing the talks as constructive move.

    He added that reaching cessation of hostilities agreement should given a priority. he urged the two sides
    He stated that the UK and the international partners especially the US and Norway will continue supporting this process, hoping that these talks will come out with peace for South Sudan people.
    In the meantime, the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Dr.Tedros Adhanom, has expressed hope that the direct talks between the parties to the conflict in South Sudan would be successful.
