South Sudan to play in African club competitions for first time
|
South Sudan, the newest member of the Confederation of African Football, will field two clubs in the 2014 CAF inter-clubs competitions for the first time in the country's short history. Founded in 2011, the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) was affiliated to the CAF in 2012 but did not participate in last year's competition.
The general-secretary of the SSFA, William Okot de Toby, informed the CAF on Monday that Atlabara FC, winners of the South Sudan League, will represent the country in the coming Champions League, while Malakia FC, winners of the South Sudan Cup, will compete in the Confederation Cup.
The African country became an independent state in July 2011 after they declared independence from Sudan
