Khartoum-Sudan's Foreign Ministry has announced its intention to take advantage of loopholes in the American sanctions imposed on it. Sudan's Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, Rahmatallah Mohamed Osman, said on Thursday that U.S economic sanctions imposed on Sudan contain loopholes which can be used to boost the country's economy, pointing out that some countries have bad relations with the United States of America but were able to take advantage of these relations like Iran.
Sudan is also subject to comprehensive economic sanctions since 1997 over terrorism charges as well as human right abuses. Further sanctions, particularly on weapons, have been imposed since the 2003 outbreak of violence in the western Darfur region.
Osman, who was speaking at a seminar on the impact of the US sanctions on Sudan on Wednesday, said that US officials always insist that Khartoum did not ask them to cooperate in the areas where there are possible opportunities
